Here we are now in Almada on top of the Cristo Rei statue, contemplating Lisbon city on the other side of the Tagus river. Normally, the Santuário de Cristo Rei is open from 9:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m..
To get there, cross the bridge of 25 de Abril and take the first exit into Almada, following the signs "Cristo Rei". Once in Almada, it takes more or less 10 minutes by car.

Marques de PombaL Illuminated city Seven valleys my Birthplace FadO Atlantic ocean Bathed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, Lisbon was once built on a village surrounded by seven valleys, as legend says. The bright sun shines on the white and pastel colored houses, it seems like the city is eternally illuminated. A city that was shattered by fires and a tsunami, following an earthquake in 1755 (8.7 richter scale). The portuguese statesman Marques de Pombal then took action and constructed the metropolis of today, implementing the striking Pombaline architectural style. The soulful Fado music echoes through the narrow streets, carrying a message to his most faraway listener.
This is the city where I was given birth and lived a part of my childhood. Every year, my family and I go back to Portugal to spend some time with our relatives and to enjoy the summertime at our favorite beaches. Herewith I present you my beloved Lisboa. |
I'd rather have a passport full of stamps than a house full of stuff. Forever a discoverer
